First off, hope everyone took my advice on Darius Slayton earlier #HumbleBrag.
Tonight is an epic, legendary, NFC Sunday Showdown with talent everywhere to be found. Here’s how my Showdown articles work. I will give you all of the players on both sides of the ball who are in my played pool. Then I will discuss how I feel about them or how I will deploy them. I do not give a game pick however, though sometimes you can tell from my tone which team I think will win.
That being said – Let’s Go:
– Ezekiel Elliot 16,200 Captain, 10,800 Flex
– Dak Prescott 15,900 Captain, 10,600 Flex
– Amari Cooper 15,000 Captain, 10,000 Flex
– Michael Gallup
– Randall Cobb
– Jason Witten
– Blake Jarwin
– Tavon Austin
– Brett Mahar (K)
– Cowboys DST
Big Zeke is for sure the most Chalk of Chalk on the cowboys tonight and for good reason. The Vikings have been ok against the run (10th avg 97.5 yards per game) but OK doesn’t cut it against the big man. That being said is he worth the Captains chair price tag. I don’t know. While there is a potential game script that says besides yards, Zeke could have multiple red zone scoring opportunities. But with both Cooper and Gallup healthy, I think I prefer Dak Prescott as my Cowboys Captain.
Now my general rule is to stack all of a QBs pass catchers with him to try and maximize all of the points scored. But stacking Dak, Cooper and Gallup together will be tough to then fit in Zeke or to come back on the lineup with say Dalvin Cook or another top Minnesota option. One thought towards the contrarian side of things may be to use Randall Cobb in the stack, instead of Cooper or Gallup. Cobb was targeted 8 times the last time the Cowboys took the field and with the Vikings possibly having secondary ace XAVIER Rhodes shadowing Cooper, Cobb may find some room to move coming out of the slot.
The same can be said for Jason Witten too, who I actually do like tonight to round out an otherwise pricey Cowboys stack. Never look past Witten especially in prime time. And then there is Jarwin. I could easily see Jarwin getting a red zone look or two tonight and I expect him to be very low owned in the field. If I run out more than one lineup, he’ll be on one. With risk of course.
Back to Cooper and Gallup though please understand I am not suggesting to fade either guy. The Vikings D is good, but it isn’t the legendary shut down secondary that it has been. Rhodes and Tre Waynes have had their struggles this season and with the big bodies of Cooper and Gallup out there, I think Dak’s primary receivers should find plenty of room to maneuver. I think Gallup will be very popular with a 4K discount from Cooper, but I prefer Cooper who should the Vikings play more zone reads will likely only see Rhodes 50% of his routes.
Don’t sleep on the Cowboys DST either. Yes Dalvin Cook will be a problem but keep in mind Kurt Cousins will be down his #1 receiver in Adam Theilan. The Cowboys could sell out to stop Zeke and force Cousins to find another way to beat them and if so, I think there is potential fumbles and picks to be had…
Lastly Kicker Mahar and Tavon Austin. I think Mahar is a fine choice to come back on a heavy Vikings stack. I do not think Jason Garrett will want to leave any red zone drive without points and it could be a busy night for Mahar. Austin I mention because he does recieve targets and also always has the threat to break a run off via a sneaky end around or other creative play. Of the very cheap options available tonight he’d be my favorite Cowboy. But I am not recommending you use him unless for salary savings.
– Dalvin Cook
– Kurt Cousins
– Stefon Diggs
– Bisi Johnson
– Kyle Rudolph
– Dan Bailey
– Vikings DST
– Alexander Mattison
– Laquon Treadwell
– Ameer Abdullah
If you are to believe the stats, there is no better play or path to a Vikings win than on the back of Dalvin Cook. The Cowboys are bottom half of the league on run defense and after a relative stinker last week, I think the Vikings come out and try to establish the run early and often. Cook is my favorite pick for Captain tonight.
Who will Kurt Cousins throw to tonight without Theilan? Of course Diggs right? Well yes, but the Cowboys have actually been solid against #1 receivers – so don’t sleep on Bisi Johnson who scored last week and had 78 yards as well. Stacking both Diggs and Bisi with Cousins May be a way to separate from the pack.
The same with Kyle Rudolph who has very much enjoyed Theilans time away from the field. He is a red zone TD dependent play but a good one tonight with the Cowboys bottom of the league against Tight ends. Irv Smith would also be a contrarian choice tonight especially for the salary savings.
I bring up Alexander Mattison and Ameer Abdullah also for contrarian plays and salary savings. The Vikings have not shied from using either man to give Cook a break – event when in the red zone. It wouldn’t shock me at all if either of these guys has a score tonight, so they should be on your radar.
I actually prefer the Vikings Dan Bailey tonight to Mahar for one reason – REVENGE NARRATIVE – seriously though, the Cowboys in the red zone have been very good and I could see the Vikings relying on Baileys leg a little more than the Cowboys on Mahar.
And then there is Laquon Treadwell playing the Tavon Austin role … see what I wrote about Austin above and rinse, wash, repeat for Treadwell.
Good Luck in your contests!’
