First off Happy Veterans Day to all those who have served and are serving in the armed forces. The Nation stands with you today and everyday. Thank you for your service.
I want to apologize for the quality of my Sunday Night Showdown article from last night. Re-doing a room in the house and was so caught up I almost missed it. For those who caught any tips, such as Randall Cobb or Tyler Eifert with a mere 10min to spare before lock – god bless ya and your winnings. For everyone else, I’m sorry.
Just to mention one more time the way I structure these articles. I will list off all of the players in my players pool for each side and give my opinions on them and how I think they will be used and therefore how I will be using them in my own contests. Hope it helps with yours. Here we go:
– Russell Wilson $11,400
– Tyler Lockett $10,400
– Chris Carson $8,600
– DK Metcalf $7,800
– Josh Gordon $5,400
– Jacob Hollister $4,600
– David Moore $1,200
– Luke Willson $200
DANGERuss Wilson will be taking on his toughest challenge of the season in the extremely formidable San Francisco Defense who is giving up the fewest passing yards per attempt and in turn the fewest passing yards per game in the NFL. Yikes. However, this is the 2019 season where anything can happen and I’d like to bet on Russell Wilson tonight, especially after a 5 Touchdown performance last week. While I may stay away from Russ as a Captain, he certainly is a strong Flex play. Now who Russell Wilson will throw to, well that may be a little trickier – but what isn’t tricky is …
… Chris Carson who’s role in this offense has been unwavering and who also gets to try his hand at a 49ers Defense that is perhaps slightly vulnerable on the ground. Just last week the all star Kenyan Drake averaged 6.7 yards per carry and on a whole the San Fran Defense is second worst in the league on yards per attempt averaging 5.7 per rush. Carson has proved to also be game script proof and so I think he is my favorite Seahawk for Captain tonight.
Now back to the pass catchers. I believe the narrative is that Tyler Lockett is the clear #1 target but would it shock you to know that newcomer DK Metcalf has a very similar amount of Russ Wilson target shares as Lockett the Rocket, yet he is almost half the cost as that of the Rocket Lockett. Now both guys have had tremendous games this season but I am concerned going against the Richard Sherman led San Fran secondary who as mentioned above are leading the league in fewest passing yards per game and per attempt. I am not saying fade either man, but the savings Metcalf offers is tempting especially with other high priced targets on the slate.
What to do about Josh Gordon who by all signs will make his Seahawks debut tonight. The same to be said about David Moore though with Moore you are talking serious salary savings. I think both of these guys are in play tonight. But of the two I do prefer Josh Gordon and he could be a sneaky flex play as I don’t know how many people will have the gall to start him but I kinda like Gordon tonight especially if Lockett and Metcalf are bottled up. Gordon showed he can be an asset during his cup of coffee in New England but of course it is a risky play. He hasn’t played a snap with Russell Wilson after all, but – anything can happen. David Moore just hasn’t seen the snap share or playing time to really even be worth the savings.
The Seahawks tight end situation seemed to clear up nicely last week with Jason Hollister catching two touchdowns. However the Seahawks have officially activated Ed Dickson tonight (remember him from last season) and with Dickson back, it is a slight concern for Hollister’s target share. Keep in mind Luke Willson is also out on the field, primarily as a run blocker but still. I like Hollister tonight, certainly more than Moore but I’m interested to see how the tight end targets fluctuate with big bodied Josh Gordon also running routes. It wouldn’t surprise me to see a Hollister touchdown grab, but it also wouldn’t surprise me to see an Ed Dickson touchdown either. The issue is, you can’t play Dickson tonight in Draft Kings.
Lastly Kicker Jason Myers ($3,800) is viable but honestly with the Seahawks likely to deploy so many weapons, even in a tough matchup, I’d rather use Gordon and Hollister with Wilson to be contrarian than use the kicker tonight. That is just me. However I could see 4 Field Goals being kicked by Seattle tonight, so I also won’t fade Myers entirely.
The Forty Niners:
– The Defense $5,200
– Jimmy Garoppolo $11,000
– Emmanuel Sanders $10,200
– Dante Pettis $3,400
– Deebo Samuel $4,800
– Tevin Coleman $8,200
– Matt Breida $6,200
– Ross Dwelley $2,000
There has been a recent trend of Defenses winning tournaments in these showdown slates. There has also been a recent trend in George Kittle winning tournaments in these showdown slates. Unfortunately for the latter, it seems highly unlikely that the big man will be on the field tonight. However with the Niners Defense coming off a rough outing against the Cardinals last week, I think tonight they will come to play. Joey Bosa and the gang will be ready to rip DANGERuss down to a Danger mouse and they have a good shot to do it… or do they?
Yes I think they do and I think that will only spell more reasons why Tevin Coleman and Matt Brieda are both firmly in play. Here’s why. Breida is coming in with a hot hand after a monster performance against Arizona. However on the season it’s Coleman who has out touched Breida 153-91 since returning from injury. The Niners get two offensive line weapons back tonight too and even with the banged up line, were still averaging almost 5 yards per carry. I think recency bias will have more players clicking Brieda’s name than Coleman’s tonight – so Coleman May be the more contrarian option – but I actually think the safe play and perhaps the super contrarian play is to roster both! Call me crazy but yeah! Let’s Go!
But where will Jimmy Garoppolo with his targets if Big George Kittle sits (which seems likely). Could it be back up Tight End Ross Dwelley? Sure. However I think the biggest beneficiary will be Emmanuel Sanders who has been nothing less than fantasy since his trade from the Broncos. He is my favorite Captains pick on the 49ers side. Also don’t sleep on Deebo Samuel who quietly has seen a 60% snap share over the last 3 games. And of course we go back to Dwelley. Stranger things have happened than a back up Tight End breaking a slate. Last week Dwelley out paced Samuel for snap share 70% to Samuel’s 60%. The savings you get with Dwelley too make him very appealing.
The other name I will mention that maybe others won’t is Dante Pettis who also could see a bump in targets without Kittle on the field. Yes he has been almost invisible in the Niner’s offense this season but – he did score a TD last week on a 21 yard catch and run and honestly – is it out of the question that he could get another one of those plus another 30-40 yards receiving? At only $3,400 I’d take those points for the savings it will give you elsewhere?
And you will need it because despite all the uncertainty of his pass catchers not named Sanders, Jimmy G should be in your flex or captains consideration tonight. The Niner’s Defense has been lights out but I do not expect Russell Wilson to go quietly. Jimmy will be throwing tonight and someone will be catching and someone will catch a TD or Three. Don’t sleep on Jimmy G.
Good Luck in your Contests!!
