The 49ers have been red hot all year. Kyle Shannahan’soffense has been incredible to watch, and they put on a show last week against the Saints. They been aggressive. They’ve been mean, and they play the Falcons this week. So lets take a dive into why Deebo Samuel is going to go OFF this week, knocking your opponent out of the playoffs. (Friday reference, classic movie).
Deebo has been solid the last couple of weeks after a rocky start to the season. He’s currently the 35th ranked WR in fantasy, and after a limited share to start the season, has come on as of late. He’s scored 13 or more fantasy points each of the last 5 weeks, and has gotten 8 or more targets 3 of those 5. Something else to take note of, he has also gotten 55 rushing yards the last 2 weeks combined. This helps boost his value as the 49ers try to get him in space with dynamic play calling.
The numbers behind the statistics tell some of the real story. Deebo is second on the 49er’s in percentage of the teams air yards with 22.05%, this includes a game he missed and as he increased his snap percentage. Did I mention that Deebo is explosive and they like to get him the ball in space? He’s 4th in the NFL in Yard After the Catch per Reception per Next Gen Stats at 7.6. The guys above him are pretty explosive athletes in Mecole Hardman, Noah Fant and A.J. Brown. His expected YAC/R is 6.4, which is the 3rd highest, so he gets 1.2 more yards after the catch that what he’s projected. That’s some explosion. Deebo is electric with the ball in his hands, and while his target numbers have steadily increased this year, he also makes the most of those targets with a catch rate of 70.15%, higher than Amari Cooper and Deandre Hopkins. He makes the most of his targets, as he catches and RUNS.
So why play him this week? What makes you think you should throw him into that flex spot? The 49ers are coming off a shootout with the Saints and play the Falcons this week. The Falcons are 13th against the run, but 21st against the pass, so expect Kyle Shannahan to exploit the pass defense this week. The Falcons best corner, Desmond Trufant, broke his arm in last week’s contest and is done for the year. This gives Deebo even more room on the outside. Fire him up this week, and watch him go scorched earth. I predict the his best fantasy game of the season for a promising young WR.
