Two defenses that are allowing massive yards and points to their opponents. Two offenses that have quite frankly underwhelmed across the boards. Well that sure sounds like a fun matchup right? Each team has suffered injuries though no team in the league has suffered injuries like the Giants have. So what to do with your DFS lineups… well here is the skinny as I see it.
It should come as no surprise that the highest owned Flex Play AND the highest owned Captain/MVP tonight is Patrick Mahomes ($18,000 Captain, $12,000 Flex, $17,000 FD) as he also is the highest projected player. I don’t hate the idea of rostering Mahomes at the top on DK where you get a bonus for yardage, I much prefer to look at another Chief as Captain on FanDuel. More on that later. The thing is the Giants for all their woes have been pretty good against opposing quarterbacks and are allowing well under 300 yards passing as well. Can Mahomes shatter that? Sure – but will he, or maybe more importantly, will he have to smash that in order to win this game?
Believe it or not, my favorite Chief’s captain(s) are the running backs. Darrel Williams ($13,500 Captain, $9,000 Flex, $11,500 FD) should be in line for a fine game against the 29th ranked Giant’s run defense who are allowing over 125 yards on the ground. I like his potential for goal line work as well in this offense. I also want to take a couple shots on Jerrick McKinnon ($1,500 Captain, $1,000 Flex, $6,500 FD) who the Chiefs have worked into their game plans and is an adept and above average pass catcher. Do I think the Chiefs totally lean on the run tonight? No, but I like the upside on the running backs in this game and you get the benefit of both salary savings and ownership savings by using them at Captain/MVP.
It has long been stated that there is negative correlation when rostering both Tyreek Hill ($16,500 Captain, $11,000 Flex, $14,000 FD) and Travis Kelce ($15,900 Captain, $10,600 Flex, $14,000 FD) together. In showdowns, that isn’t as prevalent as it is in normal DFS but even still, this season it has definitely shown to be true. So will this be a Travis Kelce Game? The Giants are 16th best against Tight Ends, so it certainly could be. Or will this be a Tyreek Hill Game? The Giants are 20th best against Wide Receivers so it could be. I think you will find due to salary the double stack with Mahomes in the flex is going to be a bit cost prohibitive. So using a cheap Giant (more on that later) at Captain or a running back like Jerrick McKinnon at only $1,500 at Captain will likely be the build you find yourself in. However be warned, given the ownership of Mahaomes, Hill and Kelce I think it is clear a lot of players are building their lineups like that. For me, I will have much more Tyreek Hill in tournaments as I love the explosiveness that Hill provides. He could hit 100 yards and a score in 2 plays. So of the big Two I like Hill at Captain more than Kelce… but that doesn’t mean I am not playing Kelce I am, just not as much as I am Hill.
Dart throws on the Chiefs? It’s for the most part your usual suspects – MeCole Hardman ($7,200 Captain, $4,800 Flex, $7,500 FD), Byron Pringle ($3,300 Captain, $2,200 Flex, $7,000 FD), Demarcus Robinson ($1,200 Captain, $800 Flex, $6,000 FD) and I’ll also mention Josh Gordon ($300 Captain, $200 Flex, $5,500 FD). I don’t think you can logically roster Pringle, Robinson or Gordon at Captain/MVP but I don’t hate taking a shot on Hardman there who has seen 5 or more targets in 5 of 7 games this season. I’ll also have a sprinkling of Pringle, Robinson and Gordon in my lineups tonight – you never know which will have a right place at the right time grab.
I also don’t hate using the kicker Harrison Butker ($6,000 Captain, $4,000 Flex, $9,500 FD) especially if you are betting the under in this game. Butker is solid and if the Chiefs stall in the redzone often he could be in line for a nice night. He is a DK play only for me though just due to price. And if you are mass multi-entering tonight I’d have at least one lineup with the Chiefs defense ($5,100 Captain, $3,400 Flex) – they are playing Daniel Jones after all.
Here’s the thing. I kinda like the Giants tonight. Maybe not to win the game, but for DFS purposes. Especially at Captain/MVP. Even though the projected starters are seeing 15 – 20% ownership in the flex, outside of Daniel Jones ($15,300 Captain, $10,200 Flex, $15,000 FD) at 44% ownership, none of the of the Gianst are seeing anything near the ownership of the Chiefs at Captain/MVP. In fact while Daniel Jones is the highest owned in the top spot at 12%, everyone else is at 5% or lower… I LOVE that!
Let’s start with Devontae Booker ($12,300 Captain, $8,200 Flex, $12,000 FD). 23% owned in the Flex, 4% owned at Captain/MVP. Booker has filled the workhorse role admirably in Saquon Barkley’s absence and the Chiefs have been allowing a whopping 130 yards on the ground to their opponents. Love his opportunity tonight.
Next the Wide Receivers. We know Kenny Golladay is out and also that Kadarius Toney is questionable (If Toney plays I will have some shares for what it’s worth). If Toney is out my favorite Giants Captain immediately becomes Darius Slayton ($9,600 Captain, $6,400 Flex, $9,000 FD) 1% owned at Captain, 3% owned at MVP. Slayton is the field stretcher and the Giants will likely be needing to stretch the field tonight. Same principle applies as I mentioned with Tyreek Hill. If Toney is in, I prefer Sterling Shepard ($10,500 Captain, $7,000 Flex, $11,000 FD) who is expected to return tonight. Shepard is a target monster and I expect him to be highly used. Oh and by the way 6% ownership at Captain, 1.5% ownership at MVP. Love that. My dart throw Captain however (yes I have one), again if Toney sits, is Dante Pettis ($7,500 Captain, $5,000 Flex, $8,000 FanDuel). 5 Targets last week, 11 targets two weeks ago against the Rams. If Toney sits again you need to have Pettis on your radar. Also .5% ownership at Captain, and no one is touching Pettis at MVP on FanDuel …
The only time you will hear me say, make sure you have Evan Engram ($8,100 Captain, $5,400 Flex, $7,000 FD) in your player pool is in showdowns. So here is me saying that. If Toney sits, I think you can have some shares of Evan Engram if you are mass multi-entering #Analysis
My strategy in general is to try and stack Daniel Jones with at least two of his pass catchers. If Toney is in, include him into that mix but assuming he is out primarily I’m looking at Slayton, Shepard, Pettis and a touch of Engram. The Chiefs are allowing over 275 passing yards per game and especially if Jones is playing Catch Up Ball I could easily see him crush that yardage total. I’ll also add in a couple dart throws too – even if Toney is in, I don’t mind having some looks at low owned and cheap WRs John Ross ($1,800 Captain, $1,200 Flex, $6,500 FD) and Colin Johnson ($600 Captain, $400 Flex, $5,500 FD) – my favorite of the two being the Speedy Ross who as the ultimate field stretcher dart throw could break the slate with one long bomb touchdown. I also want to have at least a couple shares at Tight End Kyle Rudolph ($2,700 Captain, $1,800 Flex, $5,000 FD) who has seen a couple targets recently. I just always liked Kyle Rudolph’s nose for the end zone and you never know.
(EDITOR’S NOTE: Kadarius Toney is Active tonight as of 7:05PM. He is $10,200 Captain, $6,800 Flex, $9,000 FD. He brings down my enthusiasm for Darius Slayton at Captain, raises my interest in Sterling Shepard at Captain and he himself I think is way too cheap in the Flex on DK and I will have a few shares of Toney at Captain as well. Also while I think Dante Pettis is still in play, my interest in the dart throw receivers is now also limited to John Ross.)
The last dart throw I wanted to mention is backup running back Eli Penny who saw 9 Touches last week and 2 targets against the Rams. If this is an all hands on deck type game for the Giants, he makes for a strong end of the lineup low owned cheap play at only $900 in the Flex on DK. He’s a little too pricey for me at $6,500 on FD but especially in the event something happens to Booker, if you are mass multi-entering I think Penny makes your player pool.
I also think it would be wise to have a decent share of kicker Graham Gano ($5,700 Captain, $3,800 Flex, $8,500 FD) even on FanDuel. The Giants will be looking to put points up however they can and Gano could have a busy night. You’ll want to have some shares. And if you are Mass Multi Entering, it would be wise to have at least one DK lineup with the Giants Defense – only $2,800 in the flex. It isn’t like Patrick Mahomes is immune from one or two picks per game and one could end up being a pick 6… additionally the G Men are at home tonight and fumbles, sacks etc – all potential points that you could nab. By the way the Giants are rostered in LESS than 1% of lineups. Leverage.
Good Luck in your Contests!
