The biggest news heading into tonight’s Sunday Night Football is that Kirk Cousins has been ruled out with Covid-19 Protocols. The Vikings have confirmed that backup Sean Mannion will start. Mannion is $9,000 at Captain and $6,000 in the flex and even at 33% ownership he is in my player pool. The chatter on Mannion says he knows the playbook like the back of his hand and it harkens back to that Sunday Night Game where Nick Mullens finally got to start for the 49ers and blew everyone away with his play.

The other story that also falls on the Vikings side of the ball is that Adam Thielen is on IR and so goes injury creates opportunity, I’d expect KJ Osborn $11,700 Captain, $7,800 Flex to be next in line for targets behind Justin Jefferson. I also think you will see TE Tyler Conklin also involved tonight. Conklin has been cleared to play, sitting at $8,400 at Captain and $5,600 Flex.

Mannion as Captain? No, not for me. I don’t have that much confidence in a romantic Sunday Night Story. My Captains picks for the Vikings are pretty much limited to 4 players: Dalvin Cook $15,600, Justin Jefferson $16,200, KJ Osborn and Tyler Conklin. Both Cook and Jefferson are hovering around 30% ownership but I don’t mind it. The Vikings will need both of these players to step up and lead this team which is on the bubble of the NFC Playoff race. Osborn and Conklin would be my contrarian Vikings Captains, likely coming in at 11% ownership overall.

From a Dart Throw perspective on the Vikings, I think you need to first look at a couple wide receivers who despite Mannion playing with the first team at practice for most of the week, probably has some familiarity with the backup QB across the season – if they are active: Journeyman DeeDee Westbrook $2,000 Flex, Ihmir Smith-Marsette $200 Flex being those two players. Also despite Dalvin Cook being active and healthy, I would suggest a sprinkling of Alexander Mattison $5,000 Flex and CJ Ham $400 flex would be warranted if you are mass multi entering. Lastly, a deep dart throw on TE Chris Herndon $2,400 Flex isn’t a bad call in at least one lineup if you are mass multi-entering.

While I wouldn’t roster kicker Greg Joseph at Captain I think it wise to use him in Vikings stacks at $3,200 as it is quite possible the kicking game will help to keep pace for the Vikings tonight. Also, no one will be playing the Vikings DST tonight $2,800 Flex but this is still the nutso season that started in 2021 and anything can happen. If you are mass multi-entering, I’d have at least one lineup with the Vikings DST in the flex. Skoaaaaaal!

My Vikings lineups will largely have either Jefferson or Cook in the Captain. Stacked with Mannion and a second passing option be it Osborn, Conklin or a dart throw. I’ll also be heavy on the kicker Joseph in the Flex. I don’t forsee any Vikings lineup of mine not having either Jefferson or Cook in them and if you can fit both in with a stack with Mannion – go for it.

On the other side of the ball the Green Bay Packers come in as contenders for the #1 Seed in the NFC and a win here will go a long way to locking it down. My Packers Stacks will be centered on 3 players at Captain. Davante Adams $11,000 Captain, Aaron Rogers $11,200 Captain and Aaron Jones $9,000. The latter may surprise you but for all of the AJ Dillon hype (more on him later) I think this is the exact type of game that the Packers have been “saving” Jones for – at home, with the #1 Seed in their sites against a division rival. Rogers and Adams are the two most popular plays on the slate with 50% ownership or higher, but I just don’t care. The Matchup is too good. Jones, for what it’s worth sits at around 34% ownership too – but of the big 3, I’d expect his ownership at Captain to be significantly less than Adams or Rogers.

It feels like once you get past the big 3 on the Packers, everyone else is a dart throw. However in this game that I do not see the Packers taking the foot off the gas, double stacking Rogers and Adams with either Allen Lazard $7,000 Flex or Maquez Valdez-Scantling $6,400 is probably a smart play. Of the two, Lazard also makes my cut as a Packers Captain now that I think about it.

In lineups that don’t have Aaron Jones in them, yes I of course will have AJ Dillon locked in. Dillon is $5,200 at Flex and coming in at around 30% ownership himself. He does make for a contrarian Captain play, but I am still not 100% convinced he out performs Jones here. That’s just me though.

For real Packers Dart Throws I’d look at 3 players primarily. TE Mercedes Lewis $800, TE Jake Deguara $3,000 Flex and WR Equanimeous St-Brown $1,000 Flex.

As much as I like the Vikings Kicker Greg Joseph. I am not as high on Packers Kicker Mason Crosby $3,600 aside from in Vikings heavy lineups that include the Vikings DST. The Packers DST however at $4,000 definitely make my list. We are going to see the Vikings with a backup quarterback who has not even seen a full quarter of NFL Football people – not to mention the Packers are at home at Lambeau Field. I’ll have a healthy does of Packers DST in my lineups.

My Packers stacks will primarily center on a Adams-Rogers-Jones stack with one of them at Captain. In lineups that I am not using Jones, I will use AJ Dillon. In lineups with a Packers RB at Captain I will also use the Packers DST. I also will have some builds with Rogers at Captain stacked with Adams + Lazard OR MVS and a dart throw like St Brown or Deguara or Lewis.

Overall I think the Packers win this game and but I do think, despite the backup Vikings QB, that it could have some shootout potential. Most of my lineups will be 4-2 builds with one team heavier than the other. Several years ago I made some great money on DK playing the Packers right, at home late in the season – so here’s to all of us making 2022 a successful DFS one – starting tonight!

GOOD LUCK IN YOUR CONTESTS!
